Rescuing dogs is very close to my heart.  We had two purebred dogs before our first rescue Diesel. We met Diesel after our 13 yr old dog died of bone cancer which had destroyed the bone in his leg. Our 120 lb dog managed so well with the use of three legs.  Our rescued dog, Diesel, is missing a leg. When he was a puppy a horrible man cut his back leg off. This dog is so loving and wonderful and has forgiven humans. They really are ‘our best friends’. We rescued Diesel as a 14 wks old puppy and  ...the rescuing began....did I mention we now have 4!

You can find dogs at Humane Societies, animal shelters, animal rescue groups. There are almost 300,000 dogs looking for homes on www.petfinder.com . There are too many dogs living in shelters and far too many die in shelters.  When you are thinking of getting a pet please, please rescue.

All this being said, please be careful with children around dogs, cats, any animals. Children’s behavior is unpredictable to a dog/animals and it is our responsibility to protect both children and pets. Please teach respect for animals at a young age. It breaks my heart when friends come to visit and tell me they are afraid of dogs because they were bitten as a child.
